With the lead song, “Waiting Game”, Ellyn’s emotional vocals find a path through the beautiful haze of instrumentation, satisfying breakbeats, and resounding layers of background vocals.In the first single from Before I Wake, "Human", Ellyn sings “I won’t feel shame for what I am, all I am” with her ethereal, sensitive, and raw voice. After a whirlwind of tribulations and emotions, the clouds part and a ray of sunshine comes through with “Floating”, leaving listeners lifted on an optimistic note.Many of these songs chronicle a turbulent period of change in the artist’s life.
